Fabiola Gianotti in Hunimed for a lectio magistralis at the SOUL Spirituality Festival

On 14 March 2024, Humanitas University had the honour of hosting Fabiola Gianotti – the General Director of CERN in Geneva, who held a lectio magistralis entitled “The wonder of the infinitely small and the infinitely large”, as part of the busy programme of the SOUL Spirituality Festival.

Introduced to the audience by Prof. Luigi Maria Terracciano, Rector of Humanitas University, Gianotti illustrated the objectives and results of particle physics, one of the most fascinating disciplines in the world, which provides crucial information on the evolution of the Universe, allowing two ‘infinities’ to be united: the infinitely small and the infinitely large.

The General Director focused in particular on the discovery of the Higgs boson and the technologies required to advance our knowledge of the Universe, emphasising the impact of these on society and the importance of international collaborations.

Finally, Prof. Alberto Mantovani joined Gianotti on stage and the conference ended with a reflection on Wonder, as a surprise, the beginning of everything and the mother of knowledge.
