“Sergio Lombroso” Award and Scholarships in collaboration with Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel

“Sergio Lombroso” program for cancer research and scientific collaboration between Israel and Italy.

This program was initiated by Mr. Sergio Lombroso, lawyer who died in 1988.
Later on in 1998 the program became a reality thanks to the collaboration between Lombroso’s granddaughter Daniela Di Segni and the prestigious Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

The objectives of the program are to promote cancer research and scientific collaboration between Italy and Israel. Therefore, a fund was created with an award and four scholarships:

  • The International Award (“Sergio Lombroso International Award for Cancer Research”), dedicated to a distinguished scientist in cancer research in the international arena.
  • Scholarships (“Sergio Lombroso Italian Program for Fellowships in Cancer Research”), dedicated to Italian researchers who aim to deepen cancer research at the Weizmann Institute.

The program is mainly focused on research activities in the fields of: oncogenes, genes tumor oppressors, apoptosis, cell cycle control, signal translation, gene therapy, immunology. At the moment more research fields are under discussion.

All graduates in science disciplines (physics, chemistry, biotechnology, life sciences, pharmacy, bio medical engineering, medicine) are invited to submit their application.

To participate in The International Award (“Sergio Lombroso International Award for Cancer Research”) candidates need to be appointed for consideration solely through external invitation, while the Scholarships  (“Sergio Lombroso Italian Program for Fellowships in Cancer Research”) are available for visiting students, visiting scientists, candidates of masters of science, PhD candidates and postdoctoral candidates.
