Alberto Zambelli

Prof Alberto Zambelli has directly managed over 100 clinical research studies of phase I, II and III, mainly dedicated to breast cancer.

For over 10 years he has actively participated in the clinical research initiatives of cooperative groups dedicated to breast cancer, including the Michelangelo Foundation (Milan), GIM (Gruppo Italiano Mammella), IBCSG (International Breast Cancer Study Group) and is still involved in the main initiatives for the development of new drugs in breast oncology

From May 2001 until May 2014 he was local manager for the European Bone Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Program, dealing with high-dose chemotherapy protocols and hematopoietic bone marrow progenitor transplantation in solid tumors (performing over 400 autologous transplants and over 40 transplants allogeneic with non-myelo-ablative conditioning).

From January 2010 to January 2014 he was delegated by the Central Scientific Direction IRCCS Fondazione S Maugeri for research activities in collaboration with Alleanza Contro il Cancro.

From January 2010 to May 2014 he was promoter and coordinator of the “Bruno Boerci” oncological biobank of the IRCCS Fondazione Maugeri (Pavia).

From January 2010 to May 2014 he was clinical coordinator of the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology and Pharmacogenomics, IRCCS Fondazione Maugeri (Pavia), which dealt with:

• biobanking of tissue samples for research
• cell biology (extraction and propagation of primary tumor cell lines and tumor stem cells)
• molecular and pharmacogenomic diagnostics (classic sequencing and NGS-Ion Torrent platform, Life Technoogy)
• enumeration and characterization of circulating tumor / endothelial cells (Cell-Search-Veridex platform) and ctDNA
• laboratory support for early phase clinical research (phase 1/2)

From 2010 (at present) he has participated in the development of the Italian node of the academic network of I2B2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside), an international research network born in Harvard and supported by NHI as a National Center (US) for Biomedical Computing.

Prof Zambelli is the holder of research funds for translational clinical activity, obtained from competitive private/public agencies (AIRC, Ministerial Finalized Research).
