The research activity is framed in the field of Industrial Bioengineering (both theoretical and experimental) focussing:
- Mass and energy transfer, and fluid dynamics in the biological system and artificial organs through both mathematical and numerical modelling, and experimental evaluation.
- Machine to patient interaction modelling.
- Patient-specific modelling, based on the structured analysis of clinical data, aimed at optimising the single patient reaction to the treatment.
- Design and experimental testing of biomedical devices (e.g. ventricular assist devices, dialysis filters and systems, blood oxygenators, pumping systems, heart valve prostheses, extracorporeal circuits components, liquid ventilation for pre-mature and neonates, etc.);
- Development of novel controlled drug release systems.
