This section is addressed to incoming Erasmus students planning to study in Milan and provides clear, practical guidance on how to correctly complete all required administrative procedures.

To participate in an exchange programme at Humanitas University, a valid Erasmus+ Agreement must exist between HU and your home university, which must officially nominate you.

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme that allows students to attend courses, sit exams and submit theses, and to take part in research, laboratory work and clinical placements at partner universities in Europe, with subsequent academic recognition of all activities carried out during the study period.

The main aim of the Erasmus+ programme is to give students the opportunity to improve their foreign-language skills and to promote the development of European society through study and training in an inter-cultural context.

During their period abroad, students remain enrolled at their home university and do not have to pay any tuition or enrolment fees to the host university (except for any administrative charges).

Requirements

Students coming on exchange for the International Medicine Programme (taught entirely in English) must have:

  • Excellent command of English (CEFR level B1 or higher)
  • Good command of Italian (CEFR level B1 or higher), to communicate with patients
  • At least 3 years of study in the Medical Degree programme
  • Ability to take the patient’s medical history and conduct a clinical examination

Students must provide an official certificate from their home university, confirming their proficiency in English/Italian.

Study options

Exchange students can apply for the following types of courses/rotations:

  • Medicine (click here for the Medicine curriculum with the corresponding ECTS for each exam)
  • Clinical rotations: designed to meet the needs of incoming exchange students for the Medical School. Clinical rotations are available throughout the academic year except August, with availability coordinated with various departments

Semester dates and exams

The university runs the program over two semesters. It is recommended to check the duration of each semester (see below) before applying for any Erasmus study mobility.

These dates are updated each semester:

  • Semester I (autumn semester): October to January (4 months)
  • Semester II (spring semester): March to May (3 months)

Exam Sessions

There are two exam sessions during the academic year:

  • Winter exam session: January/February
  • Summer exam session: June/July and September

Students can register for exams via the university portal within the deadlines set by academic staff. Access credentials are provided by the Erasmus Office at the start of the stay. Information on class schedules and exam dates is available on the university portal.

Costs

To finance the period abroad within the Erasmus+ programme, the EU awards a grant to each selected candidate. Although it does not cover all expenses, it can help to cover additional costs such as travel or accommodation in the host country.

The monthly amount of the EU grant is set annually by the National Agency Erasmus+. Special support is available for students with disabilities, funded by specific national schemes.
