The course is characterised by a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to teaching, with a total of 360 credits distributed into 12 semesters.
Classes aim to encourage student engagement and interaction, with a strong focus on group work through problem-based learning, data management and follow-up discussions with teachers, such as the flipped classroom approach.
The degree programme includes both single-subject courses and integrated course modules to ensure the full integration of engineering skills with clinical training.

Teaching and assessment
Humanitas University and Politecnico di Milano adopt an educational approach that promotes interactive methodologies; these include research-based learning, problem-based learning, problem solving, case methods and skill-based portfolios to guarantee a solid integration between theoretical concepts acquired during teaching activities and practical training sessions, as well as the promotion of critical thinking.
ECTS
On completing your studies in Medicine with a total of 360 ECTS, if you have also acquired the 30 additional ECTS during the six-year degree programme, you will be able to apply to Politecnico di Milano for the issuance of the three-year degree award in Biomedical Engineering.
Thesis
In order to complete your degree you will be required to write a degree thesis, supervised by professors from the two Universities. The thesis will involve the development of a project, based on the application of the acquired multidisciplinary skills.
Organisation
Years 1-3 | Include opportunities for practical experience, internships, specialised laboratories and the acquisition of soft skills, key to the development of doctor-patient relationships. |

Years 4-6 | The degree programme will include both single-subject and integrated course modules where teaching staff from Humanitas University and Politecnico di Milano will be co-present in the classroom to ensure the full integration of engineering skills in clinical training. The same approach of co-tutoring will be further adopted during a number of medical professionalising activities. The clinical component will always play a central role thanks to the close connection with Humanitas hospital. |

Virgilio Program
The project is funded by Fondazione Cariplo and coordinated by Università degli Studi Milano Bicocca. It is open to students attending Humanitas University, Università degli Studi di Milano and Università degli Studi Milano Bicocca.
Medical students will develop a deep understanding of the link between basic research and clinical research and be able to combine patient care with biomedical research.
The program, taught entirely in English, is intended for a selected number of third-year medical students, who for three years will integrate their curriculum with inter-disciplinary seminars and internship activities in research laboratories.
In particular, the program allows students to gain 60 additional university credits through seminars, courses and laboratory activities.
A team of mentors and tutors will support the students in all their activities, including the preparation of their thesis and laboratory activities.
Thanks to the collaboration between the three universities and the cooperation of the team of mentors and tutors, students will be able to carry out research activities to complete their experimental thesis in any of the three partner universities.
