Governance
The governance system of Humanitas University is structured around academic bodies that perform specific roles in decision-making, organisational, and control processes. Each body contributes to the strategic development and quality of academic and administrative activities, ensuring the proper functioning of the University and the implementation of its educational, scientific, and institutional mission.
The Board of Governors
The Board of Governors is the governing and overall planning body of the University. It oversees the economic, patrimonial, and financial management of the institution.
The President of the Board of Governors is the legal representative of the University
The Delegate Councilor determines the general organisational criteria for the offices in accordance with the directives issued by the Board of Governors, performs the functions delegated by the Board, and substitutes the President in case of absence or impediment, unless a Vice President has been appointed.
The Executive Committee carries out the tasks assigned by the Board of Governors.
The Rector exercises the functions of guidance, initiative, and coordination of the scientific and educational activities of the University, ensuring their coherence with the pursuit of institutional goals and alignment with the university’s development strategies.
The Academic Senate is the governing body responsible for scientific and teaching matters. It collaborates with the Rector in planning educational and research activities, defining scientific and educational plans, allocating resources, and recruiting faculty and researchers, also based on proposals from the university’s structures.
The General Director is responsible for administrative activities, coordinates services and technical-administrative staff, and ensures the informational flows necessary for decisions by the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee. They may attend, without voting rights, the sessions of the Council.

Functions of the University
Accounting & Controlling
Oversees administrative, accounting, and financial processes in compliance with current regulations. Manages management reporting and the preparation of the University’s Financial Statement
Communication and Web
The Communications Office manages the university’s image and brand, coordinates internal and external communication plans, social media, and institutional events. It handles relations with the press, promotes stakeholder engagement activities, monitors third mission activities, and works in synergy with the Web Office to ensure online content aligns with the strategic plan.
Data Protection Officer (DPO)
The DPO observes, evaluates, and organises the management of personal data in compliance with European and national privacy regulations. This role is performed by a team with specific expertise, providing legal and technical support to ensure proper data protection processes.Main tasks include advising the Data Controller (Delegate Councillor) and university staff, monitoring regulatory compliance, managing data breaches, and interfacing with the Data Protection Authority and relevant data processing functions. The DPO acts as the point of reference for all privacy-related activities.
Facility Office
Ensures routine and extraordinary maintenance of buildings and facilities (electric, hydraulic, lighting, and air-conditioning systems). Coordinates cleaning, security, catering, relocations, and access, as well as goods collection.
Information Technology
The Directorate of Information Systems is responsible for managing and developing the university’s IT systems to support teaching, research, and administrative processes. It oversees ICT services, promotes effective use of technology, assists users, and ensures secure access to applications, information, and advanced infrastructure.
Legal & Compliance
This service provides technical and administrative support to Academic Bodies and legal assistance to technical-administrative structures. It manages recruitment procedures, career development for academic staff, relations with affiliated hospitals, and the implementation of institutional and commercial agreements. It is also the reference point for applying privacy legislation.
Library
Supports the university’s research and training activities through bibliographic management, space organisation, and user services, including:
- on-site borrowing
- bibliographic consultation
- training on resource and service usage
Manages databases related to staff scientific output and prepares periodic reports for the library system, providing data and indicators useful for external assessment (e.g., Italian Ministry of University and Research, Evaluation Nucleus). It also supports processes related to research evaluation and third mission initiatives.
Management
The management organisation is responsible for implementing the objectives and programmes defined by the Board of Governors, promoting and supporting the Department’s scientific and educational activities. Coordination among management, disciplinary, and control bodies is ensured by the Rectorate Secretariat.
Mario Luzzatto Simulation Center
Organises advanced medical simulation training for students, residents, and specialists, developing educational pathways with simulators and robots in collaboration with the Medical Office.
Marketing and Recruitment
Promotes educational offerings in Italy and abroad through fairs, events, and digital campaigns. It defines advertising strategies for attracting new students and manages relationships with external partners, agencies, agent networks, and international schools.
Office for Medical Education
- Designs and updates the teaching methodologies of the Degree Programme, aligning them with the evidence-based principles of Medical Education.
- Trains faculty and tutors; coordinates internships, simulations, outpatient clinics, and laboratories.
- Produces educational materials (clinical cases, PBL, checklists, case method).
- Oversees the professional portfolio, educational planning, and mobility programmes (Erasmus, international exchanges).
- Collaborates with the Student Office, Language Lab, Counselling, and ICT to ensure the proper functioning of the Learning Management System and activities related to orientation, open days, and welcome days.
Operations Office
The Operations Office manages all services related to students, coordinating the following offices:
- Student Office: handles all processes related to the careers of students enrolled in pre- and post-graduate courses, manages admission procedures, and supports academic structures in defining and managing educational offerings;
- International Office: manages projects and programmes for international cooperation and mobility, overseeing both incoming and outgoing mobility. It also supports international students during their admission phase;
- Orientation Office: provides orientation services for prospective students;
- Language Lab: organises language learning courses for students and faculty, and promotes the acquisition of language certifications;
- Quality Office: ensures all processes related to the quality of teaching, research, and university services are maintained and improved;
- Counselling: offers psychological support to students in need and assists them in managing study methods and time management difficulties;
- Student Recreational Activities: Implements cultural and sports projects within the university.
Quality
Through a structured Quality Assurance system, the University ensures the monitoring and development of its academic processes, actively involving faculty, students, and technical-administrative staff.
Prevention and Protection ServiceIt develops guidelines and strategies for health and safety in the workplace, identifies and monitors risks, proposes preventive measures and control systems. It promotes a safety culture within the University, disseminating prevention norms and, in collaboration with the relevant offices, providing suitable training for all personnel.
Research Office
Supports participation in competitive grants, promotes funding acquisition, and manages the financial reporting of public and private projects in collaboration with faculty and researchers.
Consultative, Disciplinary, and Oversight Bodies
International Advisory Board
An external body comprising international experts in the fields of activity of the university. Provides opinions and evaluations upon request by the President, Board of Governors, or Rector.
Disciplinary Board
Conducts preliminary investigations in disciplinary proceedings against professors and researchers for sanctions exceeding censure. Issues a formal opinion to be submitted to the Board of Governors.
Evaluation Nucleus
Continuously monitors the effectiveness of organisation, teaching, and research. Assesses process quality, supports the improvement of the internal self-evaluation system, and promotes the culture of merit.
Board of Statutory Auditors
Oversees the administrative and accounting management of the University and monitors compliance with principles of proper administration and applicable regulations.
Student Council
Represents students enrolled in the university’s programmes. It acts in an advisory capacity and coordinates student-related activities.
