Suspended Encounters: the photographic exhibition at Humanitas University for Universities Unveiled 2026

Events March 20, 2026

On 24th March, the photographic exhibition Suspended Encounters will open at the Humanitas University Campus – an exhibition space structured across three sections and dedicated to sharing experiences, relationships, and stories that connect the University with the African continent.

The initiative takes place as part of Universities Unveiled 2026, the National Day of Universities promoted by CRUI, and will be accompanied by moments open to the public, designed to foster dialogue between the university and the wider community.

The section Encounters: Life, Glances, Care focuses on students’ experiences during university programs in three African hospitals: Change ETS (Madagascar), St. Gaspar Hospital (Tanzania), and Mtendere Mission Hospital (Zambia). The installation brings together 41 photographs taken by the students themselves, printed on plexiglass and suspended in space, capturing moments and encounters from their time in the field. The installation is curated by Erika Radonić.

The section Vita Sguardi Cura is inspired by the photographic book of the same name and presents a selection of images by photographer Gionata Galloni. Produced by Fondazione Corti, the project portrays Lacor Hospital in Uganda as an integral part of its surrounding community, presenting care as an everyday relationship that connects the hospital and the people it serves. The exhibition path is curated by Stefano Grossi.

The exhibition is completed by the Africa Hall of Fame section, which pays tribute to eight African health professionals, whose work has significantly contributed to the development of global medicine, including Denis Mukwege, known for his work treating victims of sexual violence, Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, the first woman to serve as WHO Regional Director for Africa, and Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, who played a key role in containing the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria. Their stories reflect an Africa capable of developing solutions from within and contributing, with expertise, commitment and innovation, to the international healthcare landscape. The section was developed in collaboration with students from the African Society of Humanitas University.

“Universities are, first and foremost, places of encounter – where people, cultures, knowledge, and experiences come together,” says Luigi Maria Terracciano, Rector of Humanitas University. “Universities Unveiled and the Suspended Encounters exhibition allow us to make visible the wealth of relationships, experiences, and knowledge that takes shape every day on our Campus. A richness that often remains behind the scenes, and that we now want to share through the meeting of images, people, and stories.”
