Humanitas University today launches L’Ospedale in Classe, a new project aimed at upper secondary schools that combines School–Work Training Programmes and university orientation, with the goal of bringing students closer to the world of care and healthcare professions.
The project will involve more than 1,300 students from across Italy, offering an educational pathway dedicated to the life sciences that will explore the “meaning” of care, the skills required of healthcare professionals, and the different career paths available after high school.
L’Ospedale in Classe consists of a 15-hour programme and will begin directly in participating schools, with an immersive laboratory based on a live role-playing activity. Students will step into the shoes of hospital professionals and will be asked to work through a realistic clinical case, experiencing first-hand the complexity of decision-making in care. This will be followed by four educational webinars simulating university lectures, offering students an initial introduction to academic teaching methods and to key topics in the life sciences.
The programme will conclude at the Humanitas University Campus with hands-on laboratory activities. In the 3D Innovation Lab, students will explore the intersection between engineering and medicine, discovering the role of technology and 3D printing in medical research and education. At the Simulation Center, they will take part in skill training sessions and high-fidelity clinical simulations, engaging with realistic scenarios in a safe and controlled environment.
The initiative is part of Humanitas University’s commitment to Third Mission and social responsibility activities, strengthening dialogue between schools and the university. “With L’Ospedale in Classe,” says Luigi Maria Terracciano, Rector of Humanitas University, “we renew our commitment to bringing younger generations closer to the world of science and care, supporting orientation and the transition from school to university. This is a pathway that focuses not only on skills, but also on the human dimension of care.”
The project thus represents a first concrete encounter with the university environment and the world of healthcare, offering students useful tools to reflect on their own paths and on the value of science in everyday life.
