Dr Martinelli is a Gynecologist with special interest in Gynecologic Oncology. He is an expert in surgical techniques and innovative approaches, he actively participated in the introduction of sentinel nodes procedure in endometrial cancer. He had a 20 year career experience in cancer centers such us Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori of Milan, MD Anderson Cancer Center – Huston (TX) – USA. During his training he was awarded the certification of European Gynecologic Oncologist form the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO).
In his early research career, he focused on cervical cancer studies, concentrating on nerve anatomy preservation. He then specialized in sentinel node mapping in gynecologic oncology. He is now considered an expert acting as external reviewer for the European guidelines on gynecologic cancer management. He is member of major national and international gynecologic oncology society as well as editorial board member of the official journal (International Journal of Gynecological Cancer) of the two main gyn-onc societies (IGCS and ESGO) and he is committed in teaching and spreading knowledge all over the world with tough connections with LATAM and US. Furthermore, he is an European Commission expert in medical devices and and expert evaluator of EU projects in medicine and AI.
In May 2024, Dr Martinelli joined Humanitas University as Assistant Professor (RTT) of Gynecologic and Obstetrics and Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Surgical division at Humanitas San Pio X.
