Clinical and preclinical research: on the pathophysiology of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and lung injury induced by mechanical ventilation (VILI); on the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of organ failure during critical illness or drug intoxication; on the pathogenesis of lactic acidosis; on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Expert in microdialysis, tissue oxygenation monitoring, oxygraphy (mitochondrial oxygen consumption), spectrophotometry (mitochondrial enzyme activity) and respiratory mechanics (oesophageal pressure, transpulmonary pressure, stress and strain).
