Uncategorized March 16, 2026

Humanitas University is once again taking part in the SOUL Festival of Spirituality Milan, now in its third edition and dedicated this year to the theme of Mystery. The University is a main partner of the initiative, which is supported by Fondazione Rocca.

The festival, promoted by Università Cattolica and the Archdiocese of Milan, features more than 70 events taking place in landmark venues across the city, bringing together around 100 guests to discuss philosophy, art, spirituality and science. The full programme of events is available at: https://www.soulfestival.it/programma. All events are free and require prior registration.

Below are the two events involving Humanitas University.

A spiritual alliance: when medicine changes the way we see

On Saturday 21 March, the Piccolo Teatro Grassi will host the event “A Spiritual Alliance: When Medicine Changes the Way We See”, featuring Domenica Lorusso, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Humanitas University.

The discussion between Domenica Lorusso, Simona Lo Iacono and Eugenia Alleva will address a question that remains highly relevant today: has physical suffering long been considered part of a woman’s destiny? The dialogue will lead into a theatrical adaptation performed by actress Anna Bonaiuto, based on the novel Virdimura (Guanda, 2024) by Simona Lo Iacono, which recounts the story of the first documented woman physician, active in 14th-century Catania and dedicated to treating women’s illnesses at a time when they were still little understood.

The event will be held in Italian.

Seeing the unseen: a workshop to make the invisible visible

Humanitas University’s programme at the festival also includes an activity dedicated to the student community. On Friday 20 March, at the Humanitas Campus in Pieve Emanuele (MI), artist and photographer Pietro Bologna will lead the workshop “Seeing the Unseen.”

The initiative invites students to use smartphone photography to observe and document aspects of reality that often go unnoticed or are difficult to perceive, reflecting on the power of images as a tool for storytelling. The workshop is reserved for Humanitas University students.
