MARIO LUZZATTO SIMULATION CENTER

Smart Medicine

Simulation-based learning is an effective way to acquire professional training because it integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
In the healthcare field simulation is not only a training technique for future professionals or for healthcare staff for their professional development; it is also a way to test the safety of medical tools and technologies.

The Mario Luzzatto Simulation Center is a state-of-the-art international space that enriches Humanitas University’s training courses for healthcare professionals based on their specific needs and specializations.

It is also an opportunity for interested companies to use a space that faithfully reproduces different kinds of modern hospital settings, including patient rooms, operating rooms, emergency areas, and endoscopy and angiography suites.

A “Smart Medicine” space in which cutting-edge technology is at the service of learning,

Here, you can work in teams and use state-of-the-art technologies to deal with complex clinical situations safely, thereby learning from your mistakes.

Companies can exhibit innovative devices and technologies and make the most of useful feedback from their use in realistic and safe clinical environments.

The rooms and their functions

The Simulation Center offers rooms with simulation devices of varying complexity.

Low fidelity: low-tech simulators are used to perform simple maneuvers and procedures.

Medium fidelity: slightly higher-tech devices are used, generally by an instructor; clinical training scenarios are also possible where students practice on each other.

High fidelity: complex hi-tech simulators, operated by the instructor in the control booth, allow learners to direct the healthcare scenario based on their clinical decisions. The advanced technologies used make it possible to record and note key actions, which can then be discussed during reflective debriefing in rooms designed for this purpose.

Advanced simulation rooms

The 3 advanced simulation rooms faithfully reproduce the operating rooms, ICUs and ER rooms of a modern healthcare facility. All the rooms can be adapted to the requirements of the clinical training scenarios; one room can be set up as a double room in a ward. There is a central control booth from which the instructors direct the simulated activities.

Debriefing rooms

3 debriefing rooms where teachers and students go over the videotaped simulated scenarios.

Labs and multipurpose rooms

2 IT labs, 4 multipurpose rooms, and a history-taking room, an advanced simulation room with video cameras and microphones where students learn how to take a patient’s medical history.

Conference rooms and other rooms

5 conference rooms, a physiotherapy lab and 2 rooms for low- or medium-fidelity simulations.

Anatomy Lab

1 anatomy lab where courses are held that use anatomical specimens. Activities are videotaped with an HD camera to be able to see all the details of the procedures. An attached conference room allows teachers and students to interact during courses with numerous attendees.

The Luzzatto family’s commitment to the Simulation Center

Humanitas University’s Simulation Center is dedicated to Mario Luzzatto, an internationally famous businessman, artist and philanthropist who died in 2012.

His commitment to scientific research and to health led him to Humanitas, to which he made a large donation.

Humanitas University has dedicated its innovative center of inestimable value to clinical training to this philanthropist.
