The Master in Biliopancreatic Endoscopy, taught in English, provides with medical and instrumental knowledge for proper use of the new Endoscopic equipment, the EUS of the pancreas and biliary tract and ERCP.

Objectives and professional opportunities

The second level professional Masters, “Advanced EUS“, provides participants with instrumental medical knowledge for the correct use of EUS operative diagnostic techniques and medical devices for the diagnosis of various gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal disorders.

 

 

Programme

The study plan is divided into three parts:

  1. Pure theory presented through four online lesson modules;
  2. Observation in the endoscopy room and simulation training at the Mario Luzzatto Simulation Center;
  3. Training with hands-on experience in the endoscopy room of the Istituto Clinico Humanitas of Rozzano with a dedicated tutor for each participant.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants may submit an application for participation in the selection procedure if they meet the following requirements:

Degree in Medicine and Surgery (LM – 41) with a Specialty in Diseases of the Digestive System, General Surgery, Internal Medicine or an equivalent qualification, or an equivalent qualification awarded by a foreign university.

The equivalence of the foreign academic qualification will be assessed by the examining commission on its compliance with current legislation in the field, in Italy and in the country where the qualification was issued, in addition to international treaties and/or agreements on the recognition of qualifications. The University, therefore, requires a Declaration of value statement issued by the Italian diplomatic representatives in the country of issue.

 

Admission

A ranking list will be drawn up according to the total number of points assigned on the basis of a two-part assessment procedure:

  1. Qualifications and experience: maximum 30 points are awarded for:
  • Degree marks :

lower than 100/110:  5 points;

between 100/110 and 110/110: 8 points;

equal to 110/110 cum laude: 10 points

 

  • Specialty school marks :

between 40 and 45: 5 points

between 45 and 50: 8 points

from 50 to 70 with distinction: 10 points

 

  • Previous experience in operative endoscopy:

5 points for experience of level I endoscopy certified by the hospital of origin;

8 points for experience of level II operative endoscopy certified by the hospital of origin;

10 points for experience of certified biliopancreatic endoscopy certified by the hospital of origin.

 

Candidates who score equal to or higher than 25/30 will be considered eligible and will be entitled to continue on to the oral selection phase.

 

  1. Exploratory and motivational interview: maximum 10 points are awarded for each candidate; the interview will take place in 17th April 2019.

Upon motivated request by the candidate, the interview may be carried out in Skype mode.

Following the interview, a final ranking list will be compiled combining the points gained during each part of the selection phase.

 

How to apply

The application for admission to the selection procedure must be submitted no later than April 7, 2019, following the online procedure described below:

  1. Register at the Humanitas University website at https://humanitas.esse3.cineca.it/ 

    (after registration the candidate will receive a username and password to access reserved areas of the site);

  2. Enter the reserved area of the site using the username and password and complete the application by attaching the documentation listed below in .pdf format (each file must not exceed 2 MB):

 

a) Application for admission (ANNEX A) completed, dated and signed;

b) Curriculum vitae and studiorum complete with clinical experience in endoscopy

c) Copy of a valid identification document (front and back);

d) Declaration of value (original) issued by the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the country where the qualification was issued, certifying that:

I.  the qualification was issued by the competent authority in the country of attainment;

II. the admission requirements to the programme  (basic education);

III. the qualification entitles the holder to practise the medical profession in the country of issue;

IV. the duration of the degree programme;

V. the authenticity of the signature on the qualification, and the legitimacy of the qualification itself (in the absence of such a certification of authenticity, the legalization of the certificate issued by the competent Authorities is required);

e) Documentation attesting appropriate professional medical insurance coverage or similar means of protection for professional liability.

 

3. Payment

On submission of the application, the system will automatically generate an email that confirms receipt of the application and that requests payment by credit card of the application fee of € 50 (including duty stamp).

The application is considered completed only on payment of the application fee. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid within the application deadline.

Receipt of payment can be confirmed by accessing the reserved area with username and password.

Ranking and enrollment

The list will be published by the end of May 2019

 

Temporary authorization of clinical activity – Non-EU

In order to do the training  in the third part of the professional Masters, non-EU candidates or candidates who obtained their qualifications in a non-EU country are required to present a temporary authorization to perform the clinical activities of surgeon in training or refresher course initiatives in Hospitals, University Hospitals and Scientific Institutes of Hospitalization and Health care (IRCCS) pursuant to art. 39-ter of Legislative Decree 25 July 1998, n. 286, as per D.M. 10 April 2018 (published in the Italian Official Gazette No. 154 of 05/07/2018).

Candidates must, therefore, present the documents listed in Annex S to this University by 15 May 2019. For the above candidates, active participation in the third phase of the professional Masters in which the participants perform the EUS procedure in tutored mode, will be possible only after the issuance of the authorization referred to in the previous point.

If authorization is not issued by the Ministry of Health, these participants will take part in the EUS procedure as observers.

 

Enrolment

Candidates admitted to the professional Masters must follow the enrolment procedure outlined at:  https://humanitas.esse3.cineca.it/ between May 16 and May 24, 2019, under penalty of forfeiture. The registration fee is € 8,000.00 inclusive of costs for the Master diploma and stamp duty. Payment can be made in two instalments:

– € 6,000.00 on enrolment;

– € 2,000.00 at the end of part two

Cancellation does not give the right to a refund of the contributions paid.
