Humanitas University’s advanced postgraduate course in Cardiovascular MR Imaging aims at training professionals able to perform cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging independently, in their respective professional areas.

It is designed for technologists with a strong core expertise in the field of magnetic resonance imaging and / or cardiology.

The Scientific Directors of the course will be Professor Arturo Chiti and Professor Gianluigi Condorelli.

Learning objectives

At the end of the course the technologist will be able to:

  • manage patients’ needs
  • know and employ the main acquisition protocols of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging;
  • adapt acquisition protocols to specific cases;
  • technically perform a cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging;
  • Perform image post-processing;
  • Identify core data in clinical charts.

Programme

corso risonanza magnetica cardiacaThe course is composed of 6 theory modules plus 40 hours of training. An estimated total of 38 hours of lectures will be held over approximately 3 days per month.

A test will be given at the end of each theory module. A pass mark is required in order to earn university credits (CFU).

Module 3 –  Basic Principles of magnetic resonance imaging

  • Sequences used for cardiac MR
  • Study protocols
  • Post-processing
  • Structuring a report
  • Management of patients and clinical charts

 

Module 4 – Pharmacology

  • Physical and chemical properties of gadolinium
  • Pharmacokinetics of contrast media
  • Indications and contraindications of contrast media
  • Preparation of contrast media
  • Adverse reactions to contrast media
  • Management of patients and clinical chart

 

Module 5 – Basic legal requirements

  • Knowledge of contraindications
  • Prescription and administration of contrast media
  • Civil and criminal liability
  • Liability of the professional team
  • Professional competencies

 

Module 6 – Research methodology

  • How to manage a database
  • Applied research
  • Basic principles of statistics
